Because Timber Pro’s Internal Wood Stabilizer is non-toxic it is the perfect sealer to use in wood that will be in constant contact with water. This clear penetrating watery liquid soaks in and reacts with the wood’s natural alkali or acidity causing the pores of the wood to be filled with a waterproof gel that hardens to glass crystal which remains permanently imbedded in the sub surface wood pores. The wood is now too dense to absorb water.
New wood straight from the mill may need sanding with 60-80 grit sandpaper to remove the mill glaze and allow penetration of this watery solution. Older wood that has been weather exposed will not need sanding or stripping unless it had been previously treated (painted or stained). Lumber cut to length, but prior to construction, can be dipped, sprayed, or brushed with IWS and soaked into the wood until it will not take anymore.
Cut ends and end grain are very absorbent, so it is especially important to apply liberal coats on board ends if possible. All surfaces should be treated and ideally allowed to cure for five to seven days before being set in water. IWS is best applied to wood that is new or less than five years old. IWS cannot be applied to plywood or pressure treated wood.
